Course Description
Two-hour Safe Canoeing Course This course introduces the beginning canoeist to the fundamentals of canoeing. Safety information and basic strokes will be covered, to give the participant enough skill to safely enjoy some recreational paddling with a partner close to shore. Skills Taught: ∙Safety and Theory ∙legally required items you must have in the canoe ∙selecting the right paddle and life jacket ∙parts of the canoe and paddle ∙what to put in a day trip pack ∙observe a canoe over canoe rescue ∙what to do if the canoe flips ∙Paddling Skills ∙paddlling in the front and back of the canoe ∙carry and launch a canoe ∙enter and exit the canoe safely ∙balance the canoe ∙move the canoe forward in a relatively straight line, as well as turn right and left ∙pivot, move sideways, stop, and reverse the canoe’s direction Schedule: The courses run from 10:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m.at Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area, which is halfway between Cambridge and Brantford, Ontario. Sunday 25 May Sunday 15 June Saturday 5 July Course length: 2 hours Cost: $40 per person (no taxes). This includes instruction, canoe, paddle, life jacket (PFD) and all safety equipment. What to Bring: ∙Water and a snack ∙Water shoes, sturdy sandals or running shoes. Flip flops are not recommended. ∙A change of clothes ∙Rain gear if it is wet ∙Sunscreen ∙Hat and sunglasses Special Course: Our Safe Canoeing course on the 5th of July, 2008 will be dedicated to our fellow global citizens who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances. All proceeds from this day's course will be donated directly to Doctors Without Borders to assist them in their work with people needing emergency medical care in many different countries.
