Course Descriptions for ORCKA Canoeing Certification Courses
Five-day Flatwater/Basic Canoeing Instructor Course
This 5 day course provides participants with a certification
of competence in the instruction and administration of the ORCKA Flatwater/Basic
level courses.
Qualified Flatwater/Basic Instructors are in demand by school boards,
camps and outfitters. Successful participants will receive Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association Basic Instructor certification.
Prerequisites: ORCKA Flatwater/Basic Level 1 to 4, equivalent certification or comparable skills and experience (with permission of course director) at least 16 years of age.

Schedule:
The course takes place over
two weekends: 22-24 May (long weekend)
and 5, 6 June. It runs from 9 a.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. each
day at Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area,
which is halfway between
Cambridge
and
Brantford
,
Ontario
.
Course length: a minimum of 48 hours
Cost: $595(no taxes) - This includes instruction, ORCKA Basic
Instructor’s manual, ORCKA instructor membership, canoe, paddle,and safety equipment. Participants are
welcome to bring their own equipment if they wish.
What to Bring:
- At least 2 litres of water per person per day for a hot day. Less will do on a cooler day, but it's always better to have too much than not enough! For the sake of the environment, we encourage you to bring a refillable water bottle. Clean drinking water is available at the park.
- Lunch
- Snacks - Trail mix, salted nuts, dried fruit, fruit and granola bars are all good.
- Water shoes, sturdy sandals or running shoes. Bring an extra pair to be kept dry to change into if necessary.
- Warm clothing - You can get cold even on a hot day if you are wet.
- Complete change of clothes. Keep a dry set in your vehicle.
- Rain gear. The course runs regardless of weather (within reason)
- Sunscreen
- Hat and sunglasses
- Bathing suit and towel
